How It Works

Move from birth data to a readable BaZi result

The first pass stays practical: calculate the chart, inspect the main signals, then use timing and guides when you need depth.

  1. 1

    Enter birth data

Start with date, hour, place, and gender context so timezone handling and the hour pillar stay clear.

  2. 2

    Generate Four Pillars

The tool builds the chart structure and keeps the reading available in your account history.

  3. 3

    Read core signals

Use the Day Master and Five Elements view before you jump into interpretation.

  4. 4

    Explore the layers

Continue into luck timing, Huangli, guides, wiki terms, and follow-up questions.

How To Read A BaZi Chart

Focus on four signals first

If you are new to BaZi, treat the chart output as a framework. Start with the Day Master, check the Five Elements balance, then review major combinations and timing trends.

01

Start with the Day Master

The Day Master is the reference point of the chart. It tells you which element anchors the rest of the interpretation and how support or pressure is evaluated.

02

Check Five Elements balance

Look for overrepresented or weak elements. The balance does not mean every element must be equal, but it helps you understand where the chart is concentrated.

03

Review Ten Gods and pillar context

Ten Gods become useful when viewed through the chart structure. Read them together with stems, branches, and combinations instead of treating them as isolated labels.

04

Use luck cycles as context

Luck cycles and annual timing are trend indicators. They help frame periods of support or friction, but they are not guarantees about career, love, or wealth.

Why Free BaZi

Published methods, not a black box

True solar time correction, the weighted Five Elements formula and the shensha table are all described below — not hidden behind a vague "proprietary engine".

How we calculate

Methods you can audit

Free BaZi is built on auditable libraries, published thresholds and disclosed limitations.

Algorithmic foundation

Solar terms, stems & branches and Najia derive from lunar-javascript. True solar time uses geographic longitude vs. the standard meridian (~4 minutes per degree). Hidden stems and 30+ shensha (Tianyi Guiren, Jiangxing, Wenchang, Taohua, Yima, …) follow published Ziping-pai tables.

  • lunar-javascript for calendar arithmetic
  • Longitude-based true solar time correction
  • Ziping-pai 30+ shensha annotations
  • Weighted Five Elements: stems 2, branches 1, primary hidden stems 1.5, residuals 0.75

Reading structure

Every reading uses a fixed set of sections, so you read structure first and interpretation second. Thresholds and weighting choices are stated explicitly rather than hidden inside confident-sounding paragraphs.

  • Nine fixed reading modules: overview, personality, career & wealth, relationships, learning, body rhythm, timing, action
  • Day Master strength uses a 55 / 40 threshold — published, not hidden
  • Five Elements weighting (stems 2 / branches 1 / hidden stems 1.5 / residuals 0.75) is stated in the algorithm section above

Quick Glossary

Core terms you will see on the result screen

Four Pillars

The year, month, day, and hour pillars that make up the chart and carry heavenly stems plus earthly branches.

Day Master

The heavenly stem of the day pillar. It acts as the core reference for judging support, control, output, wealth, and authority relationships.

Five Elements

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Their distribution helps reveal the chart's dominant tendencies and weaker areas.

Luck Cycles

Longer-term timing periods that provide context for how the chart interacts with changing external conditions over time.

FAQ

Common questions about this BaZi calculator

1. What is a BaZi calculator?

A BaZi calculator converts your birth date, time, and place into a Four Pillars chart. It helps you inspect your Day Master, Five Elements balance, and timing structure before doing deeper interpretation.

2. What is the Day Master in BaZi?

The Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day pillar. It is the core reference point used to judge support, output, wealth, authority, and relationship patterns in the rest of the chart.

3. Why is birth time important?

Birth time affects the hour pillar and can change the structure of the chart. It also improves timing-related reading, so a more accurate hour usually produces a more useful result.

4. How should I read Five Elements balance?

Use Five Elements balance to spot concentration and weakness, not as a simplistic scorecard. The key is understanding which elements support or challenge the chart structure around the Day Master.

5. Does the luck timeline cost extra?

No. After signing in, the decade, annual, monthly, daily, and hourly luck panels are all included. Each layer ships with a score curve and detail panel so you can drill into any window.

6. Is the AI follow-up free?

AI follow-up questions on your reading are free for now. Usage may become metered in the future, so we describe it as a current courtesy rather than a long-term guarantee.

7. What does the basic report include, and what is paid?

The basic reading is free after sign-in: it covers the Four Pillars chart, Day Master, Five Elements summary, the luck timeline panels, and a concise interpretation. Extended Reading and Human Interpretation are optional one-time purchases.

8. Is this a learning tool or a chart reading tool?

It is both a calculator and a guided reading tool, but it is written with a grounded tone. The goal is to help you understand chart structure and tendencies rather than make exaggerated guarantees.
